hi!

i love to eat and travel and document as much of it as i can.

bicyclette & manzke, pico robertson.

i write this post with a heavy heart. manzke and bicyclette are two restaurants in the same building (operated by the same owners) that we adore. we’ve been to both multiple times. we tell everyone we know how great they are, but they announced a couple weeks ago that they are both closing at the end of the month.

bicyclette is the french bistro downstairs that opened first. it has the best cocktails, the best bistro vibes and the best food. here are some of the photos i’ve taken over several different meals there:

the excellent baguette and butter.

vintage sardines, olive tapenade.

this little single serving escargot dish might be the best thing ever. we order it every single time.

burgundy escargots en croute.

soft egg in the shell, smoked sturgeon, kaluga caviar.

tuna tartare.

steak with a side of fries.

mediterranean black mussels a la mariniere, noilly prat, straus creamery butter.

bouillabaisse: striped bass, mussels, clams, prawns.

cheese for dessert!

on one of our trips to bicyclette, they offered to show us the upstairs restaurant before it had opened. specifically, all the vintage spirits they had, which just added to our excitement to eventually be able to dine there.

the following photos are from our first time at manzke, which serves a full tasting menu. it became my favorite in the city, and only got better over time.

potato chips, smoke trout roe, tzatziki.

kaluga caviar, bluefin tuna.

live atlantic sea scallop, aguachile.

dungeness crab.

thai curry.

monterey bay red abalone, hokkaido and santa barbara uni chawanmushi, shimeji mushrooms.

dashi beurre blanc.

european white asparagus.

kaluga caviar, roasted hazelnut emulsion.

brioche.

rodolphe le meunier butter.

dover sole, porcini and morel mushrooms, sauce vin jaune.

wolfe ranch quail, steel-cut oats, traditional balsamico, black truffle.

japanese and american wagyu beef, weiser family farms potato farci, sauce bordelaise.

avocado panna cotta, mango, passion fruit, coconut.

cassis and kumquat chocolates; smores; strawberry tiramisu; black sesame madeleines.

mint infusion.

we have reservations to go to bicyclette one last time before they close. it will definitely be bittersweet, but i’m super excited for it.

parting pastry.
