howlin' rays goes brick and mortar!

i was quickly enamored with howlin' rays when they first started serving nashville-style hot chicken out of a food truck last year. not only is the food amazing, but johnny and amanda are just the sweetest. the truck went away for awhile, but they are now BACK with their own storefront in chinatown's far east plaza! the space is clean and simple, with only a few seats inside and an open kitchen. the lines have been LONG, but the food they are serving is still on point.

when they first started serving out of the truck, it was just HOT CHICKEN, which was amazing with a slice of toast underneath and the best pickles (always get an extra order of the pickles). then they perfected the hot chicken sandwich (perfection, literally). the newest menu item is hot chicken and waffles. WAFFLES! the waffles are made to order, like everything else, and of the lovely yeasted variety for great texture. they really just keep getting better. if you haven't been, GO! there is usually a rather long line, but it's worth it, i promise!.

the following are just a throwback to the original food truck days and that amazing original hot chicken!
