hi!

i love to eat and travel and document as much of it as i can.

we were only in new york for a few short days, but we ate so well. in addition to our wonderful meal at cosme, we also dined at the select counter at torishin, a yakitoriya in hell’s kitchen.

preview of what we would be served.

the select counter was served omakase style, and included a mix of yakitori along with several other dishes. unfortunately, i didn’t write down each dish as it arrived, and my memory is awful, so i can’t detail most of what was served, but it was an excellent meal and experience.

amuse: today’s seasonal dish.

appetizer: seasonal sashimi & grilled seasonal dish.

all the yakitori was so, so good. expertly prepared, grilled and seasoned. my favorite of the night was main artery. i’ve never had it before and it had the best gentle chew and crunch to it. the alaskan king crab was also heavenly! we could choose between that and japanese wagyu for one of the courses, so we did one of each and shared. but i wish i could have had that crab all to myself.

special grill option: alaskan king crab.

special grill option: A5 japanese wagyu.

seasonal tempura.

towards the end of the meal, we had the option to add on additional grilled items, which i gladly did, including another main artery.

for our last options, i chose the shio ramen and brown roasted tea ice cream and james had the tsukemen and shiso sorbet. as much as i loved the select counter experience, i would want to go back and just order all the yakitori! there aren’t many yakitori specialists in LA, and the quality of what we had at torishin was so good i wish i’d had room in my stomach to eat more of it.
