hi!

i love to eat and travel and document as much of it as i can.

pujol x damian, arts district.

disclaimer: this meal took place on new year’s eve. of 2021. the day before 2022. yea, i’m behind. moving on..

like everyone else, i’ve wanted to go to enrique olvera’s pujol since netflix’s chef’s table aired an episode about the restaurant in 2018. unfortunately, my travels haven’t brought me to mexico city yet! luckily for me, i have been to sister restaurants cosme in NYC and damian in LA multiple times.

royale margarita: casa dragones blanco, giffard’s, lime, sparkling.

botanas

kanpachi flauta, shiso.

puffed masa, cashew cheese, caviar.

when i got an email in late 2021 that pujol would be doing a special collaboration new year’s eve dinner at damian i jumped at the chance. to be fair, i don’t think i could have snagged a reservation for two, i was late to the game. BUT, james was actually going to be out of town at the time, so i was able to grab a reservation for 1. at the bar. for the early seating. but you know what? i’m an old lady and have no problems with that.

baby corn, chicatana salsa.

scallop tostada, quelites, sea bean.

chile de agua for scallop tostada.

the meal also came with a drink pairing (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, i went boozy, obviously)! not specifically wine, but a drink that was appropriate to each course. i absolutely loved this and wish more restos did this.

turbot al pastor, pineapple puree, pico de gallo.

mole verde, black trumpet, oyster and maitake mushrooms, chicken skin, wild herbs.

dig in!

writing this 15+ months later, i can tell you that it was an amazing meal. the bartender who served me was warm and friendly. the food exceeded my already high expectations. the botanas were some of my favorite bites of the night. the mole madre was otherwordly.

lalocura pechuga mezcal, artichoke.

mole madre 2685 days, mole nuevo.

tortillas for mole.

crab apples, aloe ponche.

coffee tamal, hazelnut ice cream, milk foam, chocolate.

churro.

the rococo: casa dragones anejo, crema, chocolate dust.

i do wish i could have shared this meal with james, but that’s okay. just one more reason we absolutely still need to go to mexico city.

another cocktail, who knows? i don’t.
