sumibiyakitori kidori, arcadia.
january 2025
we stopped by during the soft-opening of sumibiyakitori kidori earlier this year. having grown up in arcadia, it’s a small strip mall/plaza that i’m quite familiar with, so it is a little bit of a mind trip to have a high end yakitoriya tucked away in the corner.
appetizer of tofu, nikomi (simmered innards), ginger chicken.
a simple salad.
the space is small and there are only about 12 bar seats facing towards the kitchen and chefs. the omakase comes with the appetizers, ten skewers and a rice dish at the end. there’s also the option to add on additional skewers, which of course we did.
chicken liver pate, toast.
sasami (tender) with fresh wasabi.
sunagimo (gizzard).
nagaimo (mountain yam).
negima (thigh) with scallions.
zucchini with mimolette cheese.
momo (thigh).
uzura (smoked quail egg).
everything was meticulously prepped and delicious. the smoked quail eggs (creamy and umami-packed) and tsukune were the standouts of the tasting menu for me.
shiitake mushrooms.
teba (wings).
tsukune (meatball) with ontama (poached egg).
reba (liver).
yagen (breast cartilage).
added on some favorites before we hit the end of the meal, and the liver may be the best i’ve ever had! such a difficult one to balance the flavors and texture, but these were excellent.
hatsu (hearts).
zosui (porridge) for me.
tori soba (chicken ramen) for james.
custard.
